SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning technique used to help a person or an organisation to identify its own strengths and weaknesses and the trends and developments around that can generate opportunities or threats related to own position or business. The challenge in this analysis is to find the answers in all four quadrants of the matrix. For example in the first quadrant: "How can we make use of our strengths ([+] to profit from or develop on the opportunities (+) that emerge from trends and developments in the world around us?".
Often the process stops with the finding of the core internal as well as external factors, but confronting them is the true art of this business model. It helps the finding of a working strategy. There is no documented history of SWOT, but the first terms and methods were used by Stanford University and Harvard University among others in the 1960s.
