2021 Resilience Scenarios

  • Resilience of ecosystems is the balancing act of internal quality versus external factors. It is under pressure due to climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has painted scenarios for possible temperature rises. The Paris Agreement 1.5ºC boundary we inevitably will cross. With this rise, the resilience of our natural ecosystems (including biodiversity of processes and species) as well as cities (with almost all their present infrastructure based on less than the pre-industrial 1º C temperature rise) will significantly be reduced. They simply are not equipped to handle this change. The red ball is the system. The more (sun) yellow, the higher the intrinsic quality of the ecosystem. The slopes represent the resistance, the valleys stability and the top of the hills the tipping points. We are at such a point. An art expression.
